There are many sellers of the traveler’s checks and one has to first of all purchase one from any seller of their choice. Some sellers offer cheap checks and many people seem to like them. Other buyers would simply prefer discount checks. No matter the saving method one opts for, the buyer (in this case, the traveler) has to sign the check in the seller’s presence. This is the original signature and it goes to prove ownership of the check. Nowadays, technology has allowed people to order travelers checks online.
When one wishes to cash in on their checks, they present it to the finance institution that facilitates this and consequently countersign against it. If the second signature matches with the first, then the bank will issue cash against it, however, if the signatures do not math, then that is proof to the bank that the check isn’t in the right hands.
Having understood that, it is better to also know where the risk lies. The problem that many people make is countersigning the check before they get to the paying bank or cashing point. If such a check gets lost, then anybody who picks it up can cash it. As such, it is advisable to always countersign it in the presence of the person cashing the same. The second signature is the check’s only weapon against theft or loss.
